Nanette Burton, M.S.
Nanette Burton, MS, has been with the Institute of Violence, Abuse & Trauma (IVAT) since 2017 and is currently the Research, Publications & Special Projects Manager, overseeing the three internationally published journals edited by IVAT/Dr. Geffner, as well as the research programs, databases, and program evaluation projects. Additionally, she is responsible for training and supervision of student workers, as well as coordination with, and communication between, IVAT and universities to form strategic partnerships that expand opportunities for students. She serves on the Board of Directors for the National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence Across the Lifespan (NPEIV) as co-chair for Action Team 1, Public Policy and Engagement. In addition to her work with IVAT, she is an Adjunct Instructor at Alliant International University, California School of Forensic Studies.
Nanette received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in Political Science/American Politics with a Minor in Psychology. After taking graduate courses in Public Policy and Administration, she continued to Alliant International University, where she earned a Master of Science degree in Forensic Behavioral Science. Her areas of interest include violent offenders, targeted violence, threat/risk assessment, advocacy, policy analysis, and program evaluation/development. She plans to continue her professional development to affect broad changes and contribute to trainings, research, publications, and discussions on crime, victimization, trauma, and the justice system. She believes it is our duty to acknowledge violence, abuse, and trauma and the realities that these problems create, to investigate the causes, and to work together to create informed solutions that benefit humanity.
